My husband Greg and I retired a few years back, bought a house in Mexico and settled in there permanently only returning to Canada twice a year to see our kids. Then grandchildren and Covid arrived so we decided to move back to Canada, live with one of our daughters and spend only 3 months in Mexico. During that time our son, 40 years old, comes to stay since he can work remotely.

Located in the First Row of the sea with a wide beach to walk until you lose yourself in the beauty of the ocean. Oceanfront- Colibrí is just a few steps from the sea and one minute from the International Boardwalk. One of the best locations you can find in this beautiful fishing port. Our home has 5 bedrooms with a maximum of 10 people comfortably. Enjoy the 2 swimming pools that we have with an incomparable view of the sea.
Oceanfront-Colibri is an exceptional house, full of light and with a natural sea breeze. Built on one level and divided into 3 areas, to provide absolute privacy between guests. The house is designed for people with reduced mobility, with easy access to/ from the the beach.

Description of our neighbourhood and surrounding area
Oceanfront-Colibri is located in the Port of Progreso on the Gulf of Mexico, just 30 minutes from Merida and the International airport.
Located in the front row of an unusually wide, sandy beach in which you can walk for miles, it is but one minute from the International Malecon (Boardwalk) with its many food trucks, children’s playgrounds, soccer and volleyball courts, outdoor gym , Ferris wheel and 2 carousels. The centre of town , full of stores and restaurants is a 10-15 minute walk on the International Malecon.
Our neighbourhood is nearly exclusively Mexican. Many of the oceanfront properties are the summer homes of the people from Merida. Local grocery stores, bakeries, fruit markets and convenience stores are found every couple of blocks.

INTERESTING SITES TO VISIT
1. The Meteor Museum (Meteor Museum) - east side of the Malecon. The spectacular building pays tribute to Mayan culture. It has permanent and temporary exhibits related to the impact of the meteor that caused the extinction of thousands of species, including dinosaurs. It happened 66 million years ago (Originally named the Geology Museum) *NEW
2. Sendero Jurasico (Jurassic Park)- life size dinosaurs from various eras (in Chicxulub)
3. Chicxulub Science Museum- in the center of Parque y Tecnológico de Yucatan in Merida- actual research center related to the meteor, crater and evolution of life, as well as interactive displays for the public
4. Malecon Internacional - (International Boardwalk) - just steps from the beach and ocean: benches for sitting, food trucks, outdoor gym, skateboard park, soccer and volleyball fields, multiple playgrounds for children, ferris wheel, 2 merry-go-rounds , weekend and holiday musical performers
CENOTES - guides are generally available
1. Homun Cenotes - not visited by tourists. Very natural.
2. Three Cenotes at Cuzama- ( Chelenrun, Chansinic’che, Bolonchoojol) - best known cenotes
3. El Corchito- closest to Progreso…just as you enter town by the highway
4. Sambula
5. San Ignaciao- touristy
6. San Cristanto- Mangrove and Cenote
RUINS – hiring a guide recommended
1. Dzibilchaltun- closest to Progreso, unspoiled, has a cenote, museum and restaurant
2. Xcambo- not too far. In season there are pink flamingos nearby.
3. Uzmal- comparable to Chichen Itzá but less crowded. Light show at night.
4. Mayapan- for the history lover. Mayapan was the last civilization that existed prior to the invasion by the Spanish.

2. Grutas de Calcehtok - for extreme adventurists
3. Tzabnah- in village of Tecoh. Guide mandatory.

Our home exchange - here are our Preferences and House Rules
At this time we are considering a house sit / long term exchange with New York City.
As we do for all of our airbnb guests, we insist first and last names of all guests be written on the contract. We request that you also provide age, home city and country. The information is essential in case of emergency.
Only people mentioned on the contract that has been accepted by both parties, will be accepted.
Our Mexican home, Oceanfront-Colibri is not available for exchange during December- end March/April July, August and Holy Week.
I am partially handicapped and use a mobility scooter for distance. I need to store the scooter indoors during the night for safety and because the battery requires charging.
I require easy access to enter a home with the scooter. One small step is possible but an entire flight of steps would not be possible. For obvious reasons, buildings with elevators are easiest but we are not excluding homes if the entrance is accessible. A private, closed garage with a wall plug would also be acceptable for storing and charging my scooter.
